The local wooded three-acre dog park is a gem but needs some help.
Some fencing along the parking lot needs to be relocated to make parking more accessible, especially during the winter months. In addition, a grant has been applied for through the Cook County Community Fund to help pay for boardwalks over wet areas. Go Dog North Shore expects to hear sometime in June if their grant has been accepted, but matching funds will be needed to receive the grant. And then there are annual operating expenses to account for. All told, the group needs to raise at least $12,000 this summer.
Go Dog North Shore’s website explains the program and offers you a place to donate.
Since opening the dog park last year, it has drawn raves from locals and visitors alike. And the dog owners have enjoyed it almost as much as their furry companions.
The dog park has been a phenomenal success. The operation is run by God Dog North Shore, a 501 (C)(3) non-profit that received no public funding for the development of the dog park in Grand Marais. The operation’s success relies on donations of time and money from individuals, businesses, and organizations.
