I am sad. I am confused. I am frustrated.
Why did you promise us a safe and fun place for our tweens and teens? Why did you set it up to fail? Why did you take it away and replace it with a mildly acceptable place for young elementary age? Why oh why did you take that away too?
Where will our kids go when they want to stay out of trouble? Where is the safe haven that also keeps them social and accountable? Where can they belong?
I will say it, we don’t need another daycare that takes away from what limited resources we have. We need to provide for our older kids and give them back their space. What do you provide for them? Or are they not a part of your community? Your mission statement says you are “community centered,” yet you exclude a whole age group. You are supposed to “nurture potential” and yet you are not supporting our youth.
Cook County YMCA…why?

Editor’s note: Anderson is referring to the Cook County Teen Center that was housed in the YMCA facility. It was removed and a childcare center was put in its place.
