Do the people who oppose the B2B route not like people?

I’m writing to support Scott Benolken’s commentary on the B2B that ran last week, “Borderto Border route and its riders are being mischaracterized.”

My husband and I are members of the MN Four-Wheel Drive Assn., and enjoy riding our Jeep on the back roads to watch birds, wildlife, and hike and pick berries. We practice low impact riding and leave the wilderness as we found it.

The aggressive riding machines and riding tactics depicted in ads I’ve seen, and attributed to us in interviews and testimony are not us – and wouldn’t be allowed on the B2B any more than they would be allowed on Wisconsin Street in Grand Marais.

The people who don’t like the B2B have characterized myself and the people I ride with in a negative way, which is unfortunate. I’m a department head at a state agency and my husband owns his own business. The people we wheel with come from a large cross-section of society but are all solid citizens who give back to the community. You will see that when you meet us.

I guess the people who don’t like the B2B have their reasons, but the ones they are using to justify their opposition are not true. Maybe the people, who don’t like the B2B, just don’t like people.
