Lions District Governor Joanne Ogden visited the Grand Marais Lions Club and spoke about how Lions International is evolving.

One way is the addition of women joining clubs; today women make up 43 percent of the membership.

Gudrun Bjort Yngvadottir was just elected as the first Lions Clubs International president. She is from Iceland and was voted in at the 101st International convention held in Las Vegas, which DG Ogden attended.

The president oversees more than 200 clubs and 1.4 million Lion members. Ogden also spoke of how she and her cabinet are helping to promote Lions throughout the district.

The Grand Marais Club is part of a unique district; 5m10 is the only international district, and it has clubs in both U.S. and Canada. Ogden is from Emo, Ontario and serves for one year as the district governor.

After speaking, she inducted three new Lions into the club. New Lion inductees are Lion Mike Taylor, Lion Barb Erickson, and Lion Corey Malstrom. She then presented Governor Award pins to Lion Ken Wielinksi and Lion Al Taenzer for exemplifying Lionism in the Grand Marais Club.

Pillars of Lions Clubs are vision and hearing, diabetes, hunger, environment and childhood cancer. The Grand Marais Lions Club not only contributes to these causes locally but internationally when there is a need or disaster.
