Registration is open for the Grand Marais Public Library’s summer reading program, “Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover.” Sign up using the online form on the library’s webpage, www.grandmaraislibrary.org, or call the library at (218) 387-1140 to sign up over the phone. Kids ages zero to 18 can choose between three styles of reading logs, and welcome packs can be mailed or prepared for pick up at the library based on the preference you specify in the registration form. As part of the Summer Reading Program this year, families have the additional option of receiving regular book bundles curated by a librarian for each child!
Summer reading isn’t just a great boredom buster: National research from Dominican University finds that students who participate in public library summer reading programs scored higher on reading achievement tests at the beginning of the next school year than those who did not participate. Parents of children enrolled in the public library summer reading program reported that their children spent more time reading over the summer, read more books, were well prepared for school in the fall, and read more confidently.
