Dennis Hovde Jr.


 

 

Dennis Wayne Hovde Jr. (DJ), 39, of Glenwood, Minnesota, passed away on September 24, 2021, after a motor vehicle accident.

On March 21, 1982, Dennis was born to Dennis Sr. and Cheryl Hovde of Fargo, North Dakota.

After graduating from Cook County High School in Grand Marais, Minnesota, Dennis went to Normandale Community College and graduated with an Associate of Applied Science Degree. Later, he went back to school, obtained a restaurant/hotel management degree, and was a ServSafe instructor. Dennis was instrumental in making recipes for the restaurant Blue Smoke BBQ.

During Dennis’ younger years, he had a love of cooking. He worked at Cascade Restaurant, Papa Charlies, Lutsen Resort, and Bluefin Bay. These jobs led him to work as a chef at “Bank Restaurant” located in Westin, downtown Minneapolis, and then to the Minneapolis Club. Due to knee surgeries, standing for hours while cooking was difficult. Dennis later went into trucking like his father. He enjoyed traveling across the states.

Dennis has a son, Lukas Hovde. Lukas is the love of his life and his number one priority. Dennis and Lukas spent many hours together. They loved to watch the History, Nature, and Discovery channels and many documentaries. He and Lukas enjoyed fishing and travel. Dennis loved classical music along with all other music. As a young child, he was the church acolyte at Lutsen Lutheran Church, and he was also in Boy Scouts.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father Dennis Sr. and paternal grandparents Olaf and Wilma Hovde.

He is survived by his son Lukas Hovde, mother Cheryl Hovde, sisters: Rachel Hovde, Amy Hovde, and Michelle (Peter) DeNault. His maternal grandparents Jim and Joan Hall; niece Kyli Bonin, nephews Brantley and Westley Malo, Aunt Sylvia (Steve) Galbraith, uncles: Ken (Deb) Hovde, Peter Hall, Hans (Greta) Hall, Dale (Pat) Robins and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial service will be held at Lutsen Lutheran Church, Lutsen, Minnesota, on October 2, 2021, at 2 p.m.
