Defcon 3 – Code Red!

Recently “concerned citizens” invited two Utah residents to alert us to the impending doom of Mr. Seth Jeffs building a structure on land purchased on Pike Lake Road.

According to a news piece on local radio, one of the speakers, private investigator Sam Brower followed up by flying a drone over the Jeffs property to assess activities. Subsequently, the Cook County Land Services department made an onsite inspection supported by county law enforcement.

A 13-item “Cease and Desist” order citing wetland infractions was issued, listing everything they could think of with the possible exception of “Wearing Improper Footwear.”

I’m somewhat surprised that an air strike from the Duluth Air Force wasn’t called in. You’d think that Interpol had confirmed Jeffs as being a Columbian drug lord!

Whether or not you are “concerned” about breathing the same Cook County air as Seth Jeffs, you should be alarmed by this overreaction by county officials. When anyone is subjected to harassment and invasion of private property rights at this level, it should be of concern to us all.

When the county assessor shows up with a SWAT team in tow to increase the property tax for your new patio project…perhaps you’ll take notice.

An exaggeration, yes, but so is the community knee-jerk reaction to Mr. Jeffs.
