Staff reports
The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Arrowhead Chapter, is asking hunters to consider donating deer hides to benefit the local chapter. The money received is earmarked for habitat projects.
MDHA members collect the hides. They are treated at Runningen’s Fur Store in Hovland and stored there until the end of the season. The hides are primarily used to make gloves.
Last year the chapter raised approximately $1,100 through the hide collection effort. Arrowhead Chapter President Andy Brostrom said the amount raised might be less this year as early reports are showing a slow season.
Brostrom reminded hunters that feet and head should be removed from the hide. Also, the hides should not
be stored in plastic bags, which can damage the hide.
Drop off boxes for deer hide collection are located at Buck’s Hardware in Grand Marais, Holiday Station in Tofte, and Runningen’s Fur Store in Hovland.
