David Leslie Johnson


 

 

David Leslie Johnson was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on December 18, 1934 and was the only child of Ellwood and Laverne Johnson. While growing up, his summers were spent in Grand Marais, Minnesota where they had a cabin on Lake Superior.

Dave graduated high school in Iowa and went to the University of Southern California for his undergraduate and law degree. After graduation, he became a Judge Advocate in the Army stationed in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is where he met the love of his life, Jo Ann. They married on August 3, 1963 and moved back to Southern California where Dave became a corporate lawyer. Dave and Jo Ann have two married children, Leslie and her husband, Tim, and David and his wife, Kathryn and four grandchildren, Matthew, Katie, Brace and Charlotte.

Dave enjoyed reading, spending the summers in Grand Marais and spending time with his family and friends. Dave passed away on March 30, 2019.

There will be two memorial services: on April 6th in Long Beach California and later this summer at the Maple Hill cemetery in Grand Marais, Minnesota.
