Johnson, a frequent contributor to the Cook County News-Herald, received an honorable mention in the “Nature” category for his submission “Snowstorm Eagle.”

The magazine’s editors said, “For 19 years, we’ve invited area residents and visitors from around the world to enter the Lake Superior Photo Contest. We never quite know what we’ll get; the one constant is how hard it is for our judges to choose. Even after 35 years of publishing Lake Superior Magazine, we’re still surprised and delighted by the images our readers send.”

More than 1,450 images, submitted by 270 photographers from 15 states or provinces, were submitted. The deadline for the 20th annual Lake Superior Photo Contest is Oct. 20, 2014. For complete guidelines or more information, contact the magazine at (888) BIG LAKE.
