David Eliasen, 75, Grand Marais, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in the Cook County North Shore Hospital surrounded by family.
He was born July 25, 1939 to Edwin and Grace Eileen (McRandle) Eliasen in Hovland. Dave grew up in Hovland and Grand Marais, graduating from Cook County High School. He attended UMD for a short time before serving his country in the Army. Upon his release from the military, he returned to Grand Marais where he worked as a logger and sawyer. In 1971, Dave built a saw mill in Mineral Center with the help of his father-in-law, Bjarne Johnson who also was a sawyer. He later moved the sawmill to his property in Grand Marais and continued operating until 2009.
He loved fishing on Lake Superior, sports, especially the Minnesota Twins, but most importantly he loved his children and grandchildren and the time he spent with them.
David was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Larry “Pete” Eliasen; and two nieces, Brenda Jo and Adonica Renae Johnson.
He is survived by his children Pat (Tanya), Julie, and Jeff (Mary) all of Grand Marais; grandchildren Alexis, Sophie Eliasen, and Colton Thompson; step-grandchildren, Alana, Serena, Gina, and Christina; step-great-grandchildren, Cullen, Alec, Peyton; siblings, Jackie June Nemec, Larry (Dorothy) Eliasen, Richard Eliasen, Tom (Honey) Eliasen, Fran (Jo) Johnson, Charles Johnson, Jim (Ann) Johnson, Bill (Connie) Johnson, Bob (Mary Ann) Johnson, Mary (Greg) Olson; and many nieces and nephews.
