David was born in St. Louis, Missouri, September 22, 1936, and died at home in Grand Marais, Minnesota, May 14, 2022. He attended Washington University School of Fine Arts and the University of Minnesota. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. A lifetime St. Louis Browns fan, David never wavered in his love for the team and passion for baseball history. He was Art Director for Miller Publishing putting out six monthly magazines. After retiring to Hovland, he focused on watercolor, painting Lake Superior and the North Shore, portraits, cards, and the Viking athletic teams, and enjoying his family especially his grandchildren. He was a Foster Grandfather at the Cook County Schools for 12 years, helping in elementary and art classes. He especially loved spending one-on-one time with special ed students.
Throughout his life, David continually thanked God for all that he was blessed with his family, his talents, and his many opportunities. David’s warmth, friendliness, and a generous spirit will be forever missed.
David is preceded in death by his parents Gustav and Dorothy Hahn. He is survived by his wife Virginia; children Christian Hahn (Lucy) and Rachel Medrano (Jeff Fischer); and grandchildren; Zachary Medrano (Sarah), Karl Hahn, Nicholas Medrano, Erik Hahn, Dylan Medrano and Lili Fischer.
A memorial service will be held on June 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland, Minnesota. Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Marais Art Colony or MN ISD 166 (Cook County Schools). Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
