David A. Asproth ~ 1943-2018


 

 

David “Dave” Allen Asproth, age 74 of Grand Marais, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in Moose Lake, Minn. He was born December 12, 1943 in Minneapolis to Edward and Gloria (Torgerson) Asproth.

Dave was raised in Mahtowa, Minn. and graduated from Barnum High School in 1962. He attended Dunwoody Institute, graduating in baking. He worked in various bakeries in Rockford, Cloquet, Duluth and Grand Marais. He later worked for Hedstrom Lumber Company and retired after 29 years. Dave worked as Emergency Medical and Search & Rescue volunteer for Cook County for over 30 years.

He started fly tying and fly-casting classes at the North House Folk School. Dave was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, trapping and especially his passion for fly tying and fly-fishing. He really loved basketball and football when Barnum and Grand Marais played.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Steven. He is survived by his brothers, Robert (Lorie Stocke), John (Jennifer) both of Mahtowa, Minn. and Scott Asproth of Hopkins, Minn.; and nephews Jay, Jeff, Dalton and Devyn Asproth.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at Salem Lutheran Church, 2702 1st St., (CR #4 & Hwy. 61) in Mahtowa, Minn. A second service will be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Grand Marais Senior Center, 10 N. Broadway, in Grand Marais. Private burial with be at a later date in Mount Salem Cemetery in Mahtowa.
