Darrell Edward Ryden, 76, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Aug. 9, 2014 in the Thunder Bay, Ontario hospital.
He was born May 23, 1938 to Edward and Mabel Ryden in Hill City, Minnesota. Darrell spent most of his earlier life working at Ryden’s Border Store and was a very important part of the building and opening of the present site of Ryden’s in 1963.
He married Annemarie Delarue on Oct. 20, 1989 and moved to Thunder Bay. Darrell was very proud of his 37 years of sobriety and all his new friends he made through it.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and meeting with friends daily at the local coffee shop.
Darrell is survived by his wife Annemarie; his children Eddy Ryden, Terri Lynn Ryden, Sylvia (Eddie) Chaschuk and Ralph (Bev) Delarue; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Grand Portage. A family graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. (E.S.T.) Aug. 29 at Sunset Memorial, 3200 Oliver Road, Thunder Bay. A celebration of life will follow for all from 1 to 4 p.m. (E.S.T.) at West Thunder Bay Community Center, 915 Edward St. South, Thunder Bay.
