Dan Baumann of Grand Marais was one of three Boy Scout leaders recently recognized for their significant contributions to the Voyageurs Area Council in the Northland.

The awards, among Scouting’s highest, were presented by the organization’s national leader during a May 7 appearance at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

Chief Scout Executive Wayne Brock presented the Silver Beaver Award to Elaine Hansen of Duluth, as well as to Dan Baumann and his brother Patrick Baumann of Virginia.

Dan Baumann has been involved with Scouting since becoming a Cub Scout at age 7. He is an Eagle Scout who went on to volunteer as an adult in several roles, including as Scoutmaster of Troop 167 in Grand Marais from 2000 through 2013. During that time, six of his Scouts achieved the rank of Eagle. He currently serves as a merit badge counselor and a unit commissioner. Dan and his wife are the owners of Golden Eagle Lodge on the Gunflint Trail.

The Silver Beaver Award is the council’s distinguished service award to adult leaders, who are recognized for making Scouting programs possible through their hard work, sacrifice, dedication and years of service.

The Voyageurs Area Council covers a 20-county region of northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. More than 4,000 boys and their families participate in Scouting in the region.
