Dalton Howard Shroyer, “Dal”, 92 of Chandler, Arizona, passed away on June 27, 2015 at Chandler Regional Medical Center with family at his side.
Dalton was born in Mishawaka, Indiana to Harvey Howard Shroyer and Grace Brewer Shroyer on Oct. 13, 1922.
He was a B-26 Marauder pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II and achieved the rank of 1st lieutenant. Dal flew 47 missions in Europe.
He moved his family from Mishawaka, Indiana after purchasing the Aztec Inn at Illgen City, Minnesota in 1955. He was a long-time employee of Erie Mining Company in Taconite Harbor, where he was assistant superintendent of the power plant. Dal resided in Lutsen for many years.
Following his retirement, Dal and his wife Charlotte moved to Chandler, Arizona in 1988. Dal was a great family man and easily made friends, impacting all those who knew him in a memorable way.
He is survived by his children Charlene Kelley (Jim), Wayne Shroyer (Bobby), Caryn Potter (Paul), and Robert Shroyer (Katie); six grandchildren Cheryl Pearson Hasquet, Jeffrey Pearson, Brian Speck, Adam Shroyer, Collette Speck Sizer, Darrin Shroyer; 10 great-grandchildren Jennifer Pearson Becsei, Brooke Terpak Williams, Brianna Pearson, Ryan Speck, Courtney Pearson Cochran, John Miscevich Jr., Haley Speck, Brooke Shroyer, Riley Sizer and Ashley Speck; two great-great-grandsons, Shane Padilla and Parker James; and many nieces and nephews.
Dalton was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte; sisters Alta, Mildred and Norma and brothers Dean and Keith.
Funeral services were held July 3, 2015 at Valley of The Sun Mortuary, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, Arizona. He was laid to rest with his wife, Charlotte following the services. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons Jeffrey Pearson, Adam Shroyer, John Miscevich Jr., Riley Sizer, Shane Padilla, and Parker James.
