Dale R. Schinn, age 75 and a resident of Gautier, Mississippi, passed away on Oct. 22, 2016, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bernhild Anna Schinn and his brothers, Gerald A. and Steven J. Schinn.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lilli Schinn; his daughters, Karen Warden of Biloxi and Janis (Ricky) Nix of Vancleave; his brother, Duane (Gloria) Schinn of Lutsen; his sisters, Lorayne Rannetsberger of Lutsen and Kathy (Mike) Kimball of Grand Marais; his special aunts, Ms. Mary Schinn of Phoenix, AZ and Mrs. Borghild Kittel of Barnum, MN and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dale was a native of Duluth, where he was born on June 1, 1941. He graduated from Hermantown High School and attended the University of Minnesota, San Diego State College and Mississippi Gulf Coast College. He served 30 years in the U.S. Navy and retired at his highest rank as a Commissioned Officer (Bos’n). He served on many ships in his career, and was Destroyer Groups Tugboat Captain and Harbor Master in San Juan. His last duty station was on the USS Nassau, LHA 4. He also worked for Litton Industries in Pascagoula and Kaiser Realty in Orange Beach, Alabama. He received over 20 awards of recognition for his years of service to his country. He was also a highly gifted athlete in high school and was awarded the honor to be a member in the Hermantown High School Hall of Fame for his achievements in football, which he was very proud of. He was always quick to note that if it wasn’t for Coach George Petrich’s guidance he wouldn’t be where he was today (thanks Coach). He loved sports, boating, fishing and would never miss a tee time on the golf course when his schedule permitted. Dale and his wife loved to keep a very attractive yard, always planting a new shrub or tree. They were a lovely couple who were always doing things together. In younger days they enjoyed boating, golfing, yard work, and socializing with their daughters at family events. He was known to have a toddy or glass of wine while relaxing on the patio.

He was a member of the American Legion and Fleet Reserve Association and flew the American flag daily. He was a winner in all respects – losing was not an option for him. Everything he did in life was the best he could do and he always gave 100 percent. Those who knew him can attest to that. He cared very much for his family, who were always there for him and very proud of him. He loved his animals and had a big heart. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Dale – Rest in Peace for your last cruise (with fair winds and following seas). Graveside services with military honors were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
