Dairy Queen and the Cook County Home Center worked together to liven up the muddy spring season this year by offering kids the opportunity to take part in a coloring contest. Kids in two age groups, 0-6 years and 7-14 years, could win one of four prizes. First-place winners each received a brand new bike, just in time for the warmer weather.

There were also two second place prizes, including a computer backpack for the older group and a $25 gift certificate for Dairy Queen for the younger group.

Pages to color were published in the Cook County News-Herald, and over the course of three weeks, Dairy Queen and the Home Center collected a variety of entries. During that time, people could stop in at Dairy Queen and see the many creatively colored pages lined up along the counter.

With well over 60 great entries, the contest judges had a tough decision to make once all the pages had been collected. In the end, they successfully narrowed it down to four lucky winners. Georgi Dimitrov won the bike for the older age group and Lauren Berglund, age 6, won it for the younger group. The second place winners were Kole Anderson, age 10, and Jack Radloff, age 4.
