Cynthia Ann (Gilbertson) Smith,





 

 

Cynthia Ann (Gilbertson) Smith, 62, of Grand Marais, surrounded by her loving family and friends went to be with her Heavenly Father, to celebrate her new life at 9:38 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.

Cindy was born February 13, 1954 to Kermit and Marie (Winter) Gilbertson in Two Harbors, Minnesota. She graduated from Cook County High School in 1972. Throughout her life, her career was spent cooking at many establishments and she was well known for her talent in the kitchen. Her career in cooking wasn’t just to cook; it was a passion she had to feed all those that she loved. The last seven years of her life, she was a registered nursing assistant at Cook County North Shore Hospital and Care Center where her desire to love on and nurture people continued and touched the lives of all she cared for.

Cindy loved her family dearly and found so much joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a loving, compassionate person, who made many laugh with her sassy humor. Cindy was a friend to many and loved deeply. Friends and family found her to be a consistent confidant, a never-ending encourager and someone who always saw the best in everybody.

When in need, Cindy was always there and her love for the people in her life will live on in their hearts forever.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Kim and

Trisha Gilbertson.

Cindy is survived by her life partner and best friend, Tim

Peck; two children, Kory (Misti)

Gilbertson, of Plano, Texas, and

Jessica Rodne of Grand Marais; brothers, Bruce (Sis) Gilbertson of Kelsey, Minnesota, Kurt Gilbertson of Duluth, David (Cindy) Gilbertson of Schroeder, Scot (Lori) Gilbertson of Wright, Wyoming and John (Athena) Gilbertson of Duluth; sisters, Bonnie Kytonen of Phillips, Wisconsin, Louella Gilbertson of Cumberland, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Jubal (Michael), Kaleb, Robert, Cody, Gunnar and Rayce; three great-grandchildren, Kiah, Kayson and Ezra and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, all who will claim to be her favorite, because that is how she made them feel.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the Schroeder Town Hall. Following the service, please stay and join the family for a luncheon and a time to gather.
