They came with floppy feet, all furry and cute, straddle legged, starry-eyed, inquisitive, nervous, goofy, giddy, sweet in their cuddly innocence. Welcome to the impossible to judge Cutest Puppy Contest.
Winston, a 12-week-old 15-pound yellow lab owned by Lauren Kauffmann of Minneapolis, placed first in the 5-20 pound class of the Cutest Puppy Contest. Just a tail wag behind was runner-up Beau, a German shepherd husky mix owned by Carmine Thelen of Nisswa, Minnesota.
Blake Berglund’s Morkie, a 7-month-old 71-pound puppy, named Oakley, was named best handler in the small dog class. Berglund is from Ramsey, Minnesota.
Belle, an 11-week-old 12-pound English setter who is owned by Ryan Netland of Grand Marais, won first in the Medium 20-40 pound class.
Best Handler in the class went to Ollie, an 11-month-old mini-golden doodle owned by Kayla (no last name) of Grand Rapids.
Although there were eight entries in the Large 40-80 pound class, none of the winners were marked on the contest sheet.
Odin, a 90-pound 7-month-old Great Dane/Mastiff mix, was picked best handler in the Huge, 80 plus pound class. Paulina Backstrom of Maple Hill owns Odin. Or maybe it’s the other way around.
Archie, a 3-month-old 26-pound Newfie/lab mix was voted cutest puppy in the Huge class. Jeff Carter of Grand Marais and Chicago is the proud owner of Archie.
