Curtis Burns, 80, died Jan. 18, 2017, at ManorCare Health Services in Topeka, Kansas.
He was born April 15, 1936, in St. Paul to Curtis and Jeannette (McConnon) Burns. Curtis was married to Ellen Moyer on Aug. 26, 1961, in Grand Marais. His wife passed away on June 18, 1987.
Curtis graduated from Grand Marais High School and went to work for Erie Mining Company. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his discharge, he moved to Hazen, North Dakota to start a lifelong career in the electric power plant industry. He worked at several power plants before moving to Garden City in 1981 to become the first manager of Sunflower Electric-Holcomb Station.
He enjoyed attending sporting events to support his family and community. Curtis was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church of Garden City, Kansas, the Elks Lodge, and the Broncbuster Athletic Association.
His parents, wife and one sister, Barbara Cummins, preceded him in death.
Curtis is survived by three sons: Michael Burns, Garden City; Tim Burns, Topeka, and Richard Burns, Garden City; one daughter, Michelle Sayler, Underwood, North Dakota; one sister, Janice Hints of White Bear Lake; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 23 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Memorials requested to Broncbuster Athletic Association in the care of Garnand Funeral Home.
