The Cook County Curling Club (2018-2019) started its season with a “new” 2004 fully refurbished battery-powered curling ice scraper.
This newer model replaced a used 1985 scraper that the club purchased in 1993. After almost a quarter-century of local use it was laid to rest because the club couldn’t get any more replacement parts.
The new scraper has made maintaining the ice for the volunteer ice crew a welcomed change. It has a broader blade, is battery operated and has power drive, something that the old scraper didn’t have.
Funds to purchase this new $4,900 scraper were gained through Cook County Curling Club fundraising events and by receiving donations from current and past curling club members.
The Cook County Curling Club would like to thank these members: Duane Hasegawa, Barb Heideman, Dave Jansen, Bob Spry, Mike Ryden, Tom and Dorothy Danielson, Sue’s Hair, Chuck Futterer, Sara Schoonover, Dave and Patty Homyak, Carroll Peterson, Chaz Meisenheimer, Chuck Anderson, Jim King, Don Fehr, Tom Wentworth, Tom Fredeen, Rob Ilstup, Peter Barsness, Gary Gilmore, Greg Miron, Jim McDermott, Greg Koshinska, Bill Gabler and Nancy Larson.
