In the January 24 Cook County News-Herald, I enjoyed reading the Over the Hill column by Joan Crosby. I also remember an old house full of cubbyholes in France where I grew up with my grandparents and greatgrandmother.
She had one room in the house that was her bedroom knitting room, herb room and refuge. I remember her locking the door sometime in the afternoon and I could hear her complaining out loud as Joan’s aunt did. My great-grandmother would then come out around 5 o’clock and have a cup of herbal tea acting as nothing happened!
Joan’s article brought back memories!
