If you love the fall color, the North Shore of Lake Superior and beautiful art, mark your calendar for the fall art tour – the 20th anniversary of the Crossing Borders Studio Tour will be held Sept. 23 through Oct. 2.
The tour takes you into six art studios along Lake Superior. Originally crossing the Canadian border, the tour now runs from Two Harbors to Grand Portage along Highway 61. This is a free, self–guided tour open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Host studios this year are Blue Skies Glassworks and Cooter Pottery and Hand Weaving in Two Harbors; Last Chance Fabricating in Lutsen; Betsy Bowen Studio in Grand Marais; Lee and Dan Ross in Hovland; and Ningii-Ozhitoomin Ojibwe Art Gallery in Grand Portage.
Whether it’s a day trip or you take several days for the journey, there is plenty to see. This is a rare opportunity to get inside these professional artists’ studios and learn about their creative process. Last Chance Studio will have bronze pour at 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
Many of the studios will host guest artists with a total of 27 artists showing their work including glass work, pottery and clay work, weaving, fiber art, sculpture, metal work, wood work, print making, leather work, jewelry and native Ojibwe art.
With over two decades of history the Crossing Borders Studio Tour artists encourage you to come out, visit the studios, enjoy the fall colors and linger a while at each of the stops. They will have coffee and goodies out for you to enjoy while you peruse the art and possibly find a piece that you would like to take home.
