The Cross River Heritage Center in Schroeder is gearing up for a “Week of Traditions” Sept. 19-26.

In previous years the center has partnered with Sugarloaf Cove Interpretive Center and the Tofte Historical Society at the North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum for a “Day of Tradition.” This year the events have multiplied and a week of traditions seemed more apt considering the numerous activities planned.

The schedule for Heritage Center events begins on Sept. 19 with Mary Jane Huggins with basket making at 10:30 a.m.; storytelling with Matelda Smith Tormondsen, Florence Smith Alnes, and the George and Clarence Smith families at 1:30 p.m., and Mary Schliep with rosemaling at 3:00 p.m.

On Sept. 21, join the Tall Tale Yarn Shop Knitting Group at 7 p.m. There will be a cribbage tournament on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Call (218) 663-7706 to sign up!

On Sept. 23, the community is invited to a potluck. Bring your favorite comfort food to share at 6:30 p.m. and on Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. there will be a needlework session.

On Sept. 26, Lavona Czaplicki and Cindy Gilbertson will be hosting a “Stamp Up” class all day, from 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Author Stephan Dahl will be on hand on September 26 as well from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. to talk about and sign his book Knife Island: Circling a Year on Herring Skiff. Harpist Georganne Hunter will play during the book signing.
