The Cross River Bridge will get some needed repairs before the opening of walleye fishing in May.

Repairs to the Cross River Bridge on North Gunflint Lake Road are expected to begin Wednesday, March 21. This is a cooperative project with MnDOT to repair the bridge in response to recent bridge inspection findings, and before the walleye fishing opener in May.

The bridge needs to be closed for two days while crews stabilize its timber decking. Emergency services will be accommodated, if needed, during the work. The bridge will be reduced to one lane after temporary repairs are completed.

Cook County is actively working on an Alternatives Analysis with the goal of replacing this bridge with a permanent solution within the next three years. A public input session will be held this summer to offer residents and property owners an opportunity to discuss the long-term options for this bridge.
