The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams traveled to Ely on October 5 to take part in the Ely Invitational held on the Ely golf course, with both varsities running well.
Girls’ Varsity results
The North Shore Storm girls took second to Proctor in the nine-team meet. Proctor won with a score of 41 points when their top five finishers’ places were added up. The Vikings’ 62 points easily placed ahead of Rock Ridge’s third-place 83 points.
Leading the way for the Storm was Autumn Smith (6th), Olya Wright (7th) and Lamar Gordon (8th). They finished within three seconds of each other, with Smith posting a time of 20:49.
Kate Nelson of Mountain Iron-Buhl won the race finishing the 5K in 20:09.
Jocelyn Carr (20th) and London Smith (21st) were the Vikings’ fourth and fifth place scoring runners. They crossed the finish line in 22:29 and 22:32.
The Vikings’ other finishers were Trinity Giddings (22nd) 22:38; Sierra Geatz (31) 23:10; Anna Hay (40th) 23:40; Amery Oberg, (47th) 24:31; Brianna Monson (54th) 25:33; Claire Lindstrom (63rd) 26:48; Cece Chmelik (73rd) 28:24; and Shawnda Everson (77th) 30:01.
Boys’ varsity results
The boys took fourth place out of eleven teams and were led by Nate Bilben’s sixth-place finish. Nate ran the 5k (3.1 miles) in 17:47. Aaron Nelson from Rock Ridge won the race. Aaron beat his teammate Cameron Stocke by one second, recording a time of 16:49.
Rock Ridge won the boys’ crown with 47 points.
The Vikings’ next four scoring runners were Ian Thorpe (18th) 18:26; Clay Thorpe (26th) 18:49; Kyler Hanson (45th) 19:43; and Cyrus Myers (46th) 19:44. Rounding out the finishers for the Vikings were Elijah Smith (49th) 19:51; Brayden Schmidt (50th) 19:52; Keean Selin (60th) 20:18; Nicholas Swartz (68th) 20:38; Jonah Schmidt (90th) 21:35; Adam Oberg (94th) 21:50; Andrew Hallberg (99th) 22:30; AJ Mattson (105) 22:47; Isaac Schmidt (106) 22:47; Haddon Taylor (111) 22:55; Finn Taylor (114) 23:04; Robert Rodriguez (126) 23:58; Odin Hanson (133) 25:21; Rylan Brown (134) 25:22; and Reed Cruikshank (142) 41:57.
Girls’ Junior High results
Sophia Lindstrom (18th) was the top placegetter for the North Shore Storm over the 2.4K distance. Her time was 13:02. Signe Myers placed 24th with a time of 13:52. Emma Crook took 26th in 13:59; Zoey Kacures took 29th in 14:10; Anya Howard finished in 37th with a time of 14:56; Amelia Saamanen placed 45th in 15:17, and Leah Belmosre took 53rd with a time of 16:50.
Boys’ Junior High results
Eddie Larson took third place in the Junior High Boys’ 2.4K race. Eddie ran 10:13 while Goshi Dimitrov placed 7th with a time of 10:35. Talon DeBoer was 15th in 10:55; Elias Pszwaro placed 26th in 11:37; General Higgins placed 50th in 12:49; Erik Gischia took 51st in 13:10; Ero Moody was 57th in 13:47; Lute Johnson finished 68th in 16:43.
