Cross country ski trails report

A lovely couple of days of snowfall has allowed the trails to be groomed back into excellent cross country skiing following a week of late January rain. Snow has accumulated daily this past week, with as much as a foot of the white fluffy stuff expected to fall between Feb. 6 to Feb. 10. Temperatures have been in the mid-twenties during the day, with lows near zero at night, which sets up the trails perfectly for skiing. . Sugarbush Trail: As of February 8: We have received 7” of new snow in the past 24 hours and 17” within the past week. We have a winter wonderland here! There are 77 kilometers to ski, so enjoy! All trails, except for Moose Fence were groomed with our Pisten Bully late last night. Details on groomed sections are at www.sugarbrushtrail.org/ski-trails.php. . Norpine Trails: Excellent packed trail conditions throughout the system. Trails are all groomed and packed and in good to excellent condition. Skiing is fairly fast. No cautions so enjoy! . Grand Marais Area Trails: We received approximately 5-7 inches of new snow from this latest storm. All trails have been compacted so skating lanes should be in good condition. Classic tracks are set. We now have a superb base for the remainder of the season. This includes 3 K-Cut Off, B&B Loop, Canyon Curves Loop, East Overlook Loop, Hilfiker Hill Loop, Lower Snowman Loops, North Advanced, Ole Hyvaa Loop, Pincushion Mountain Loop, Upper Snowman Loops, West Overlook Loop. . Central Gunflint Trail System: We’ve had lots of new snowfall lately, 7.5 inches over the last week. Frequent grooming has continued to fine-tune each trail. All ski trails are open and are in excellent shape. For the most up to date grooming information, as well as specific trail conditions, please contact Golden Eagle Lodge (1-800-346-2203) or Bearskin Lodge (1-800-338-4170). Central Gunflint Ski Pass required. . Upper Gunflint Trail System: Total snowfall for the season is 55.2 inches. The east half of the trails was groomed on Wednesday, Feb. 8, with the west half to be groomed the next day. The 40 miles of the Upper Gunflint Ski Trail system is maintained by the Gunflint Lake Trails Group, and we require an Upper Gunflint Trail Ski Pass for usage. Funds raised from these passes pay for land lease fees, and grooming expenses. Passes can be purchased at Gunflint Lodge (218-888-2294), Gunflint Pines Resort (218-388-4454), and Heston’s Lodge (218-388-2243). All of these resorts are located on the South Gunflint Lake Road. Daily, weekend, week, and seasonal passes are available. . Banadad Trail System: At 30 kilometers, the Banadad is the BWCA’s longest tracked ski trails. The entire trail system has been cleared and packed. Tracked trails include 10 km on Lace Lake, Tall Pines and Tim Knapp and 3 kilometers on the east end of Banadad.
