Cross Country Ski Trail Report

Staff report

Winter has been teasing us. Early snow and cool weather was followed by a melt.

With the recent warm-up it’s hard to keep track of which cross country ski trail or fat tire biking trail is open for use.

Ditto for snowmobile trails.

This week we are listing the trails and locations to call for trail reports. You can also find a daily listing of trail conditions on Visit Cook County: visitcookcounty.com

All skiers between the ages of 16-64 who ski on non-federal trails must pick up a Minnesota State Ski pass. Nordic skiers who ski the central and upper Gunflint Trails must purchase a ski pass.

. Banadad Trails: For the latest conditions, see bct@boundarycountry.com or call 218-388-4487.

. Upper Gunflint Trails: Upper Gunflint Ski Trail Passes are required. Please support these trails by purchasing the pass at Gunflint Lodge (800-328-3325), Gunflint Pines (800-533-5814), or Heston’s Lodge (800-338- 7230). More information can be found at https:// www.gunflint.com/, www.gunflintpines.com/, or www.hestons.com/.

Funds raised from these passes pay for land lease fees and grooming expenses. Daily, weekend, week, and seasonal passes are available.

. Bearskin: See bearskintrailreports. wordpress.com/ for the most recent conditions.

. Golden Eagle: For the latest, call 1-800-346- 2203 or 218-388-2203.

A dedicated section of Cook County cross country trails are now open for both fat tire bikers and skiers, the trails are located between the Ski Lift Road in Tofte and Cascade Lodge near Lutsen.
