The moose go a little crazy this time of year and so do North Shore residents and visitors during the Grand Marais Moose Madness Festival, October 16-18. The family-friendly event brings some excitement to our quiet fall days.
There are all kinds of crazy contests and activities, ranging from writing poetry, drawing cartoons and coloring to hula hooping and racing a moose in Harbor Park. There is a medallion hunt and scavenger hunt. There are many artful activities at the Grand Marais Art Colony, North House Folk School, weaving at The Market and crafts at Joy & Company.
An exceedingly popular event is the “Decorate your own Caramel Apple and Moose Cookie” at Gunflint Mercantile on Saturday, October 17. There is sticky good fun from 2 – 5 p.m.
New to Moose Madness, although not to Cook County, is the Sawtooth Mountain Bike Challenge. The Superior Cycling Association moved this popular event to Saturday, October 17, so it didn’t conflict with another regional bike race—and to take advantage of the stunning fall weather at Pincushion Mountain Trails. For information on the race, visit the association website at www.superiorcycling.org.
Throughout the weekend, Murray the Moose from Visit Cook County will be wandering around town. Mosey on down to Grand Marais for Moose Madness. There is something for everyone!
