Cook County Public Health and Human Services recorded 56 new cases of COVID-19 from January 20 to January 27, bringing the total to 694 cases since the start of the pandemic. As of December 7, 2021, the county had 341 cases since the start of the pandemic.
The report from PHSS includes over-the-counter antigen positive results reported to either Cook County Health and Human Services or Grand Portage Health Services. Over-the-counter test results are not sent to the Minnesota Department of Health, so the state’s numbers and county’s numbers aren’t the same.
On January 24 the Duluth News-Tribune reported that the Northland has seen an all-time record of COVID-19 cases over the previous week, with 5,698, breaking the record of 3,485 reported the week before.
Cook County now has two deaths attributed to COVID-19.
Out of the newly confirmed cases of covid in the county, 30 of the 56 confirmed cases were from folks between the age of 19 to 50.
As of January 27, the county has 4,348 fully vaccinated citizens.
