As of December 23, 2021, Cook County recorded 381 case counts of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, but seventeen new cases had been reported in the seven days before December 23, so local health officials are warning residents to take precautions to slow the spread down.
To date, there are 4,289 fully vaccinated people in Cook County out of a population of 5,600. That comes out to 78 percent of residents have had all of their vaccinations, the highest percentage in the state, and 83 percent of Cook County residents have had at least one vaccination.
After 21 months, there has only been one recorded death due to COVID, and Cook County has the lowest rate of COVID cases In the state, with 3.4 cases per 1,000 people, compared to the state average of 175 infections per 1,000.
Grand Portage Lake Superior Chippewa has more than 80 percent of its tribal members vaccinated and nearly 100 percent of its elders.
During the month of November, there were 77 recorded confirmed positive cases of COVID. The largest age group to get the coronavirus was 0-18, seeing 28 instances. From age 19-50, there were 22 cases; from 50-65, there were 11and there was 16 positive cases for folks 65 and over.
