COVID-19 cases continue to mount in Cook County



Eighteen cases of COVID-19 were reported over seven days bringing the total case count to 341 for Cook County since the start of the pandemic. That was December 2.

On December 7 four new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the county and last week the county had its first person die who had contracted the coronavirus.

Throughout the region, six people died in Northeastern Minnesota of COVID-19 on December 7. Three perished in Itasca County and three in St. Louis County. There was a total of 639 new COVID- 19 cases in Northeastern Minnesota’s seven counties on December 7.

On December 6 the Minneapolis Star & Tribune reported the state’s adult ICU beds were being taken up, with 98 percent occupancy rate of adult intensive care beds in hospitals presently filled with both COVID and non-COVID patients. The paper also said that health experts believe that immunity gained from vaccinations begins to diminish after six months, and those experts call on folks in that category to get their booster shots.

Cook County has 4,129 fully vaccinated people out of the 5,600 residents in the county.
