Cook County News Herald

Courtesy and common sense have been forgotten

I’m ashamed of you, Fritz Sobanja, for your attitude towards residents of this county. To encourage fellow commissioners not to respond to a question posed by Garry Gamble is deplorable. And maybe the other commissioners are also to be deplored because when you instructed them not to answer Garry, they obeyed you and refused to respond to him.

To call Molly Hoffman a liar is grossly offensive to me and everyone else. It doesn’t matter how much you know, or think you know, you do not have the right to insult any of us. Even young children are taught not to call others names. You owe Molly a sincere public apology, and if you can’t do that, maybe you don’t deserve to be a commissioner anymore.

And to Bruce Martinson, who was also deeply offended that a study had been forgotten: Did you remember that the study showed a projected annual deficit of over $500,000, that a service area of 50,000 population was needed, and the annual adult membership rate would be $200 – $300? If you remembered all that, why on earth didn’t you keep that information at the forefront as plans continued to move forward for a community center?

This entire issue is indicative of what’s wrong with our governments. Once a project finds funding, courtesy and common sense are forgotten.
