As of Monday, February 8, 1740 Cook county residents, or 32.8 percent of the county, had received at least their first COVID-19 vaccination.
That far outpaces the state’s average of 10 percent of the population, said Cook County Public Health Coordinator Grace Grinager to the county board on Tuesday, February 8.
Of that number, 273 Cook County residents had completed the vaccination protocol by getting their second shot, she said.
With no new COVID- 19 cases reported in the last week, Cook County now has a 1.1 percent positivity rate, added Grinager.
The Cook County Emergency Response Center has opened shots to the elderly first, and are working their way down the age groups. This past week vaccinations were open to residents 65 or older on Thursday, February 11, at the Cook County Community Center.
So far, said Grinager, the county has vaccinated 75.6 percent of its 65 and older residents.
Cook county Emergency Manager Mike Keyport who with Jim Wiinanen works out of the community center said, “I can’t say enough about the use of the building and how much juggling Diane (Booth) does and how she puts up with us. I hope the community stays positive,”
Keyport also mentioned the work of the many folks involved with running the COVID-19 program, and gave giving kudos to those who work to deliver the vaccinations to the community.
