County Auditor-Treasurer Braidy Powers reported to the county board Tuesday, August 11, 2009 that the county had received from the state an increase of 5.6% over last year as payment in lieu of taxes. The payment is designed to offset the amount of state-owned land that does not generate property taxes for the county.
This year’s payment was $195,613.83, an increase of $10,400.95 over last year.
From the payment, $108,231.13 is allocated to the county’s Park and Recreation Fund.
Members of the 1% Local Option Sales Tax Committee talked on August 10 about using the Park and Recreation Fund to help fund projects that have been considered for the tax, which will be brought before voters in a referendum this fall.
