The Cook County Highway Department has a new maintenance supervisor after the October departure of Tim Suck, who has moved to Michigan.
Russell Klegstad of Grand Rapids, Minnesota started December 14, 2009. According to Highway Engineer Shae Kosmalski, he has owned a family fleet company and has extensive experience with large rigs and heavy equipment, owned a lodge in Lake of the Woods, and was an Itasca County Commissioner for four years. “His references were just absolutely impeccable,” said Kosmalski.
Of seven applications submitted, six applicants were considered for interviews. Two had scheduling conflicts that precluded them from attending interviews. Kosmalski, County Commissioner Fritz Sobanja, and Engineering Technician Bill Parish interviewed four candidates.
Klegstad attended the December 15 county board meeting. He told the board he and his family are renting a house in Lutsen and hoping to buy one eventually. His wife and sons were moving their things during the meeting, which means that he got out of it, he said. “Glad we could help,” Commissioner Bob Fenwick said.
Klegstad said he is willing to come to county board meetings to answer any questions the commissioners might have.
