Preliminary 2016 population and household estimates for Cook County showed slight population growth over 2010.
Census estimates conducted by the Minnesota state demographer placed 5,264 people living in Cook County. The United States Census Bureau showed 5,176 people living here as of July 1, 2010.
In Grand Marais, 1,397 people live in either 695 households or 42 group quarters. The average population of each home was 1.92 people.
Lutsen Township had 421 people spread through 216 households, which averaged 1.95 people per house.
Schroeder Township numbered 210 people and 102 homes, which averaged
2.06 people in each household.
Tofte Township counted 260 people with 144 households and an average of 1.81 persons per household.
Most of the county’s folks lived in unorganized territory. There were 2,994 people in 1,415 households and eight group quarters. The average number of folks residing in a house or residence was 2.03.
