County and city should disband the EDA

I thought the comment by Mark Sandbo in the November 8, 2013 article about the new search for a new Economic Development Authority (EDA) director was interesting. Mr. Sandbo stated that “If we get the right person in here, we can get things done.”

That seems to say that in the past the right person was never hired. Based on that premise, why would one believe that the people who have never gotten it right in the past would do it right this time?

I think Cook County and Grand Marais would be better served by disbanding the EDA.

With the exception of the Cedar Grove Business Park all operations that are grouped under the EDA seem to already be run by a designated person. The business park has never been successful no matter who is the director.

A solution for the business park could be to give the lots away and get the land back on the tax rolls.

Why is a new director of the EDA needed?
