»» In the August 14, 2010 letter to the editor entitled It takes
a village to host Fisherman’s Picnic & Lumber Camp,
the writer left out one very important mention. Niel and Jenny Atkinson would like to express thanks to Paul Higgins, owner of Circle H Timber, who trucked all of the wood for lumber camp for free and also helped with some emergency
welding. Apologies to Paul Higgins for the omission.
»»In last week’s photos of Grand Portage Rendezvous Days,
we incorrectly identified the Grand Portage Senior Princess in the dancing photo. The name was correct in the group photo of the 2010 Grand Portage Royalty. Congratulations
and apologies to Senior Princess Autumn Clearwater-Day
and her family from the Cook County News-Herald.
CLARIFICATION:
The August 21 News-Herald
article entitled Money rolling
in from new 1% tax
(page A2) states that the county now has $147,627.25 in its 1% tax coffers. The $21,417.71 still left over from the previous 1% hospital capital improvement tax is actually in a separate account from the $126,209.54 the county has netted so far with the new 1% sales and use tax. The new tax will be used for various capital improvement projects around the county.
The leftover hospital tax money is in a hospital special revenue fund but could be transferred at any time into the county’s general fund now that the hospital bonds have been paid off. It could be used for any county expenditure.
