In the July 21 article Change in election line-up for county commissioner, we incorrectly quoted County Auditor Braidy Powers regarding candidate Kelly Swearingen withdrawing from the race for commissioner district 2. Swearingen’s name will still be on the August 14 ballot. Auditor Powers told the News-Herald that theoretically Swearingen could win the primary election and be placed on the ballot for the general election. We reported that if she was elected and did not serve, the county board could appoint a replacement. Powers said the county board has to hold a special election if she chooses not to serve. If she did serve on the county board and was unable to continue for some reason, the other commissioners have options, depending on the circumstances, to either appoint or call a special election. The News-Herald apologizes for the error.
In the caption for the fabulous fish photo that ran in the Cook County News-Herald on July 21, we inadvertently mixed the length and weight of the lake trout caught on Clearwater Lake. Donn Boostrom’s trout was 18 pounds 3 ounces and was 38 inches long. The News- Herald apologizes to Donn for any harassment he may have received due to our error!
