» In the August 1, 2009 Cook County News-Herald front-page article on the Grand Marais Park Board’s Master Plan, a statement
about the park being a necessity for people who can’t afford to stay in a hotel when they come to town was attributed to park guest Al Brodie (p. A4).
Brodie called the News-Herald office August 7 to say that he had been referring to a statement someone else had been quoted as saying in another News-Herald article. He may have been referring to a statement park board chair Lindsay Mielke made October 7, 2008: “It’s nice that people who can’t afford to bring their families up here and stay in hotels can stay in a tent and be able to visit this area.”
Brodie said he brought up the statement at the park board’s July 28, 2009 meeting with the public in order to caution the board against characterizing the park as a place where only people without money stay, saying that doing so could be offensive to some RV owners. The News-Herald apologizes for any misrepresentation of his statement.
