I have lived in Grand Marais all of my life and I am very proud that we were voted “The coolest small town in America”! That said, why can’t our “cool” town do better for a 4th of July parade?
I appreciate those few that took part in it, but it was a bit embarrassing to hear the out-oftown families next to me saying “That can’t be all there is?” and “Is it really over?”
I know our “big” parade is during Fisherman’s Picnic, but most of the tourists here for the 4th of July don’t know that.
I went to the parade in Tofte in the afternoon and the Cook County High School band marched in it—why were they not in the Grand Marais parade? That would have been a nice addition.
Also, couldn’t we get a few more of the local vintage car owners to join in?
I think next year we should make more of an effort to prove that we really are the “coolest” small town and have a bigger parade for the 4th.
I will even promise to do my part, since I opened my mouth and will be sure to have an entry! Please join me!
