Local youths are getting ready to head back to school soon with just the memories of baseball remaining. It was a great season, according to Baseball Commissioner Mitch Dorr.
The Twins won a 14-11 thriller over the Dodgers in the Cook County Little League championship game.
“Isaac Sandstrom and Paul Dorr pitched very well for the Dodgers,” said Dorr.
“Daunte Deschampe and Isaiah Deschampe also pitched very well for the Twins. The game was close until the last two innings with lots of great plays made by both sides,” said Dorr, who coached the Dodgers and who was in charge of the summer league.
Parent Pitch champions were the Lumberjacks who defeated the Yankees. “This game was close for two innings and then the Lumberjacks built a big lead,” Dorr said. “The Lumberjacks were really the team of the year in the Parent Pitch league.”
Lumberjack Coach Shem Falter was proud of his team for the win, but more so for their overall play. “It was an absolute joy to coach this team,” said Falter.
With the success of the high school baseball team in the last few years, younger kids are taking notice and learning the game.
“Overall baseball is on the upswing. We had 50 kids in T-Ball, 50 kids in Parent Pitch and 47 kids in Little League. The parents were fantastic and we had lots of very good parent-coached teams.
“All in all it was great year. The kids and the parents really did a great job,” said Dorr.
