Playing away on Thursday, July 30, the Cook County VFW Vikings fell hard to Cherry in 12-0 shutout.
Cherry took the lead in the first when Jude Sundquist doubled on the first pitch, bringing in one run. Cherry’s offense exploded for seven runs in the third and they tacked on four more runs in the fourth to put the game away. The contest ended in the fifth inning because of the ten run rule.
The Vikings had no answer for Cherry pitcher Bean Barry. Barry allowed one lonely hit while striking out 12 and giving up six bases on balls.
Jacob Dorr got the only hit for the Vikings. Barry and Sundquist each got multiple hits for Cherry.
Cherry finished with seven hits and nine bases on balls.
Taking the loss for the Vikings was Isaac Sandstrom. Sandstrom pitched two innings, allowing seven hits, four walks, and eight runs. Kole Anderson who went two innings relieved him. Kole allowed two hits and gave up four runs while walking four and striking out three.
Cherry didn’t make any errors in the field.
