Patrick Pierre starred on the mound for the Cook County VFW team on Tuesday, July 28, allowing one run while striking out seven in a rare win against Esko in a home game.
Jacob Dorr brought in the winning run in the ninth inning on a fielders’ choice and the Vikings took the contest 2-1 on a beautiful night to play baseball.
The Vikings scored one run in the first inning on a wild pitch and Esko knotted the score in the second on a ground out that brought in a run. From there on out both pitchers locked in on the batters and the scorecard had more zeros on it than a Homer Simpson math test.
In his strong showing on the mound, Patrick only allowed three hits over nine innings against a strong Esko team.
Samala took the loss for Esko. Over eight innings he allowed one run on four hits, notching six strikeouts.
Four Vikings got hits in the game: DJ Seidel, J Shannon, Derek Smith and Amos Falter each got a hit for the home team.
Isaiah led the CC VFW team with 12 chances in the field as the Vikings didn’t commit any errors in the field.
