Sugarbush Trail Association
The skating lane on the Britton Peak loops have been reconditioned. Thesnow dropping out of the trees is almost done, so the skating lane should stay in good shape, reported the trail managers Feb. 2. A number of trails have been recently groomed: Summit View, Wood Duck, Piece of Cake, Bridge Run, Hogback East and West, Homestead lower and upper, and Britton to Oberg. Season snowfall has reached 30 inches. More details may be found at www.sugarbushtrail.org.
Banadad Ski Trails
There is good news! The reopening of the Banadad is moving along, and the Lace Lake and Tall Pines are once again open for skiing. However, much of the Banadad is still blocked by icecovered brush. Opening of the trail is moving ahead as crews are out daily cutting the brush off the trail. The going is slow! Crews report that it is taking about an hour to five hours per mile to clear the clutter. As of Feb. 2, about one-half of the Banadad has been cleared. Visit www.boundarycountry.com for the latest trail conditions.
Bearskin Lodge
Bearskin Lodge reports that there is now 10-12 inches of base. Areas with large rocks are no longer as much of a problem as they were earlier this winter. For a complete wrap-up, see bearskintrailreports. wordpress.com.
Lutsen Area
As of Jan. 29, 8 to 10 inches of wet snow had fallen inland, but only rain near the lake. “Due to the heroic efforts of our grooming crew, we were able to open Deeryard and the pioneer loops for the weekend,” said the trails manager. “Expect good to excellent conditions on Pioneer, Deeryard and Firetower runs.” Ridge Run and Short Loop are not open yet. Visit www.norpinetrails. org for the latest information.

Shele Toftey of the Ridgeriders Snowmobile Club said the trails all the way to Grand Portage are in “good to excellent” shape, and have been groomed on a regular basis. However, she said there is little snow in downtown Grand Marais, and riders should trailer their snowmobiles to the Devil Track parking area and begin there.
