Bearskin Lodge
Right now the ski trails are in excellent shape, and it’s a good time to take advantage of the milder temperatures. All trails have been recently groomed. For a more complete round-up, see bearskintrailreports.wordpress.com or call (218) 388-2292.
Lutsen Area
Groomer’s comments:
“Trailheads near the lake will have little to no snow. May need to walk up to 150 yards before getting to snow. After that point, skiing is good to very good and excellent out at Deeryard. One tree is across trail at Deeryard Lake. You will need to work around the tree as our chainsaw broke while trying to clear it. We will clear it on our next grooming run.”
There was only a dusting of new snow during the past week, and snow depth ranges from 8 to 50 inches. Base depth is up to 24 inches. Visit www.norpinetrails.org for the latest information.
Cook County Ridgeriders and Grand Portage Trail Riders
Local trail conditions have been lauded by some recent riders. “We spent a fair amount of time on the trail system this past week and hats off to the local and state groomers, trails are in awesome condition. Go ride!” And, according to snowmobiletrails.com, plenty of snow and groomed trails await all along the North Shore. However, due to sun and warmer temps the south-facing slopes along Lake Superior, trailheads and trails between the shore and about a half-mile inland have lost most snow cover… use inland systems. Looking for a snowmobile adventure? Two great events worth hittin’ are this weekend – Fishcakes @ Carbine’s and the Trout Derby picnic and fishing contest. Call the snowmobile club at (218) 387-9392 or visit www.boreal.org/ RidgeRiders/ or call Grand Portage Lodge at (218) 475-2401 or toll-free (800) 543-1384.
Golden Eagle Nordic Ski Center
We were out last evening (Tuesday) before the cold set in and groomed all the trails on the north side of Flour Lake as well as the west end Logging Camp, Ridge Run, Upper Beaver Dam, Moose Pasture, Wolf Point and the North South Link between Aspen Lake and Golden Eagle Lodge. Trails have set up nicely over night with good classic tracks and a firm base for skating. Conditions are excellent! It looks like average February temperatures through the weekend so get out and enjoy the trails and the Winter Tracks Festival!
See the Golden Eagle website at www.golden-eagle.com for the latest on the central Gunflint Trail conditions.
Pincushion Mountain Ski Trails
Even though we have not had snow recently, the trails are in very good condition, although a bit dirty in spots. The classic tracks are holding up very well, with a few icy spots but nothing serious. The skating conditions are very good. All of the loops are currently well groomed and quite skiable. Go to pincushiontrails. org for the latest conditions.
Sugarbush Trail Association
Trails are in good to very good condition, with a nice surface of packed powder. There has been no new snow in the past week, and the season total remains 41 inches. The packed base is 6 to 10 inches. More details may be found at www.sugarbushtrail.org.
