On June 19, Cook County will welcome the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics starting when participants accept the Torch from our Canadian neighbors at the Grand Portage U.S. Port of Entry. The Cook County Sheriff ’s Office, along with other local law enforcement agencies, is leading the charge to participate in the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch run starting. The torch will be carried from the border to Lutsen on Monday, June 19, and from Lutsen to the county line on Tuesday, June 20.
“We are proud to participate in this very important cause to support Special Olympics,” said Sheriff Pat Eliasen. “So far, officers from the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office, U.S. Customs & Border Protection, the U.S. Border Patrol and the DNR have all registered participants to help carry the Flame of Hope, but we also want to encourage the community to get involved and run, walk or bike a piece of it as well.”
To register to be a Torch Run participant, waiver forms are available at the Cook County Law Enforcement Center at 143 Gunflint Trail or online at specialolympicsminnesota.org/get-involved/law-enforcement-torch-run/finalleg/
A $15 registration fee is required, but includes a Law Enforcement Torch Run T-Shirt. The deadline to register is May 12.
