Cook County takes part in Human Services Worker Day




Cook County, along with communities across the state, recognized County, Tribal, and State Health and Human Services Worker Day in Minnesota on Wednesday, Dec. 14 following a proclamation by Gov. Mark Dayton.

“We have a significant number of employees that are often times under-resourced and putting themselves in risky situations to deliver important services to the public; many of whom are children, elders and other vulnerable people,” said Joshua Beck, director, Cook County Public Health & Human Services (PHHS). “We are so pleased that Gov. Dayton has recognized the important work of Health and Human Services workers.”

Cook County employs 22 people in the Public Health & Human Services Department who deliver a number of critical services, including: . Social Services: Services for those experiencing difficulty with family issues, developmental disabilities, mental health, or care related to aging. Services are provided in partnership with the Cook County Wilderness Outpatient Treatment Program. . Chemical Dependency: Help with treatment options and sources of funding. . Childcare: Licensing for family child care providers, and assistance with childcare costs. . Financial Services: Food support, work programs, and cash assistance. . Health Care: Eligibility expertise to help you get access to healthcare programs. . Disease Prevention and Control: Assist and conduct infectious disease investigations; communicable disease prevention, education, and follow-up to control the spread of disease; coordinate with the Minnesota Department of Health on case investigation. . Health Community Promotion: Promoting healthy behaviors through events and public communication, and community assessments; providing health service information and referral to county resources; assuring the quality and accessibility of health services; family home visits for pregnant and post-partum mother and babies.
